Speech and Testimony

County Executive Leggett’s Remarks at the Montgomery County Mobile Integrated Healthcare Press Event

Executive Office Building, 101 Monroe Street, CE Conference Room

As prepared

Good morning!

I am glad to be here to announce that today I am sending to the County Council today a supplemental appropriation totaling a little more than $404,000 to implement the Montgomery County Mobile Integrated Health care project.

This is a bold, new initiative designed to reduce the growth of demands on our Emergency Medical Services and provide better health outcomes for frequent users of County ambulances.

I am pleased to be joined today by Fire & Rescue Services Chief Scott Goldstein, Health & Human Services director Uma Ahluwalia, Councilmember Marc Elrich, and Council President Roger Berliner.

This program follows a pilot project we did that involved “super-users” of our ambulance services.

By targeting these individuals with the medical and social services they needed, we were able to reduce EMS calls from these users by more than half and, most importantly, make sure these County residents were getting the help they needed on the front end.

This is an example of making County services more efficient AND more effective.

I want to thank Chief Goldstein and Director Ahluwalia for their collaboration on this.

I also want to thank Council President Berliner and Councilmember Elrich for their support and the men and women of FRS and HHS who have done the great work “in the trenches” to move this initiative forward.
