County Executive Leggett’s Remarks at the 2017 NACo Achievement Awards

Thank you, Shawn, and good afternoon everyone! Together with the chief administrative officer and the president of the County Council, we appreciate you joining us for this wonderful event to honor the County departments and employees whose innovative programs and exemplary service have been recognized by the National Association of Counties.
This year, Montgomery County earned 31 NACo Achievement Awards. And since 2013, the County has received more than 135 Awards.
In 2017, five County Programs were selected as part of NACo’s “Counties Matter Challenge: 100 Brilliant Ideas at Work.” These five programs were selected as part of the 100 Best Innovations in County Government throughout the United States by NACo this year.
Let’s congratulate the following Montgomery County Programs:
Maternity Partnership Oral Health Initiative
Tech Connect
Ride On Route Tobytown Isolated Community
Comprehensive Stress Management for Correctional Employees
Montgomery County Greenfest
Since the program’s inception in 1970, the NACo Achievement Awards Program has honored thousands of County government initiatives that have improved service delivery, achieved greater cost efficiency, provided improved customer service, and helped to develop a better-trained work force.
The programs recognized through the NACo Achievement Awards serve as examples for counties across the country. Many of America’s 3,069 counties face similar challenges and can learn from their shared experiences through the NACo Achievement Awards Program.
