County Executive Leggett’s Talking Points at the Rockville Lions Club’s 80 Years of Service

Lakewood Country Club

13901 Glen Mill Road, Rockville

As prepared

For 80 Years, the Rockville Lions Club has provided free glasses to those who need them; paying for the eye checkups, and a new pair of glasses.

They distribute each year at Christmas, a new book to own, to children at the Twinbrook Elementary School.

They provide more than 3,000 eye glasses to countries overseas through their collection of glasses collected in our boxes around Rockville.

In addition, they made a $25,000 contribution to the Shady Grove Hospital for its “Life Beyond Cancer” family navigator program at the Aquilino Cancer Center.

Each year they are Co-sponsors of the Safety Awards Banquet in which Police Officers and Firemen are recognized for their works of valor.

They also award three scholarships annually to Montgomery College, as of this year our contribution totals 80,000 over the many years.

They take part in the Montgomery County Fair and their members work at the Ice Cream Booth, for which these funds and all funds raised go right back into the Community.

These are just a few of the ways in which Rockville Lions have made an important impact on the lives of Rockville citizens in our community.
