Over the last month, we experienced a higher than normal level of service problems with one of our solid waste collection contractors, Potomac Disposal, Inc., specifically impacting the Bethesda and Silver Spring areas. While trash collection is occurring on the regular schedule, residents in these areas continue to experience delays in the collection of yard trim, scrap metal, and small amounts of recycling.
The County has actively worked to address this unacceptable level of service and has contracted with The Goode Companies, Inc. (partnering with Bates Trucking) , to provide collection services effective Tuesday, May 30 (Memorial Day slide week) for trash, yard trim, and scrap metal in the Silver Spring area.
In addition, the County has contracted with Ecology Services, Inc. to provide collection services in the Bethesda area effective mid-June: June 12 for yard trim, and scrap metal, and June 19 for trash and bulk items.
Going forward, Potomac will continue to be responsible for collection of recyclables in both areas, and has assured the County that they have sufficient crews to provide recycling collection service.
Crews will be out Friday, May 26, 2017 and Saturday, May 27, 2017 to address the backlog. We are working to pick up all uncollected items as soon as possible.
We apologize for any inconvenience this situation is causing.
