Montgomery County, City of Rockville to Host September 11 Community Remembrance

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, September 8, 2021

Courthouse Square Park, Rockville (corner of Jefferson and Maryland Ave.) Friday, Sept. 10; 11 a.m.

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich will be joined by County Council President Tom Hucker, Rockville Mayor Bridget Donnell Newton, other elected officials and community members for a September 11 community remembrance.

This ceremony will honor and commemorate the more than 2,900 victims of the deadly attack - including 11 residents who lived in Montgomery County - and the courageous first responders who charged forward to rescue.

The event takes place in the small memorial park which consists of 11 benches, each dedicated to one of the lost residents. The benches are engraved with lines from a poem, song, or thought, selected by family members. One corner of the park stands a small, three-columned stainless-steel pavilion with two round columns into which is built a book that lists the names of those lost.
