Rep. Jamie Raskin to Join Montgomery County Executive Elrich on Weekly Media Briefing Focusing on Potential Federal Government Shutdown

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich will host his weekly, virtual media briefing at 11:30  a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 27. He will be joined by Congressman Jamie Raskin, who represents Maryland’s 8th Congressional District and serves Montgomery County residents and communities. Rep. Raskin is the ranking member of the House Oversight Committee and was a key member of the January 6 Commission that investigated the attack on the U.S. Capitol.

The Congressman will share his thoughts about the looming Federal Government shutdown that will occur if action is not taken by Congress by the Sept. 30 deadline. An agreement to avoid this shutdown was worked out between party leaders earlier this year, but that compromise has been rejected by some Republican lawmakers aligned with former President Donald Trump.

A government shutdown would adversely impact hundreds of Montgomery County families by denying them a regular paycheck or forcing some government services to be suspended.

These media briefings offer reporters a consistent opportunity to reach these County officials to discuss how Montgomery County is managing this pandemic and to address the County’s robust public health efforts.
