Montgomery County Executive Elrich to Announce the Nomination of Assistant Chief Marc Yamada to Lead County Police Department

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22, in Gaithersburg will announce his nomination of Assistant Chief Marc Yamada to serve as the next chief of the Montgomery County Police Department. If confirmed by the County Council, Assistant Chief Yamada will become the first Japanese American to serve as Montgomery County's police chief and will assume the role following the retirement of current Police Chief Marcus Jones.  

Assistant Chief Yamada has 35 years of exemplary experience with the Montgomery County Police Department, demonstrating exceptional leadership, dedication, passion and a deep commitment to community safety. During his career with the department, Assistant Chief Yamada has overseen the Field Services Bureau and served as the Fourth District (Wheaton area) commander, captain for the Community Engagement Division and a duty commander among his many assignments.
