Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich has announced that the County’s Department of Transportation will be using new environmental controls to ensure that snow removal operations are more sustainable. The new approaches for the 2019-20 winter storm season were addressed during the County’s annual “Snow Summit.” Innovations for the upcoming storm season will include the use of more “brine” solution (and applying less road salt) and a pilot program using rubber-tipped blades on some snow plows. It is hoped rubber-tipped blades will cause less damage to roadways than metal-tipped blades. View photos here.
