Council Spotlight

National Opioid Awareness Month

On Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2023, Councilmembers Gabe Albornoz and Sidney Katz presented a proclamation with officials from the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) recognizing September as Opioid Awareness Month in Montgomery County.

According to the latest data, youth overdoses for County residents 21 and younger spiked in 2022 and rose by 77 percent. 11 of the 48 youth overdoses last year were fatal.

Many have been impacted by the opioid crisis, and behind each overdose are families, friends, and communities that will never be the same. The Council recommits to working with community partners and DHHS to do everything possible to prevent substance use and overdose.
