Council Spotlight

Sickle Cell Awareness Month

On Sept. 10, 2024, Councilmembers Will Jawando, Gabe Albornoz and Laurie-Anne Sayles present a proclamation for National Sickle Cell Awareness Month. Sickle cell disease (SCD) is an inherited blood disorder that causes red blood cells to become sickle-shaped and harden.

Montgomery County is proud to be an active part of the solution to treat, manage and cure SCD by partnering with health organizations to promote research for stem cell transplants, gene therapy, medicines, and best practices for healthcare professionals treating patients.
