On Oct. 1, 2024, Councilmembers Laurie-Anne Sayles and Marilyn Balcombe and Council Vice President Kate Stewart presented a proclamation recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In 2024, an estimated 310,000 women and almost 3,000 men will be diagnosed in the U.S. with invasive breast cancer, and over 42,000 women will die from it. Education about early detection is crucial, as early diagnosis and treatment can improve the quality of life for those with breast cancer and their loved ones. We urge Montgomery County residents to vigorously advocate for improved treatment, awareness, and research of this disease.
