National Farmer's Day

On Oct. 15, 2024, Councilmembers Laurie-Anne Sayles, Dawn Luedtke and Marilyn Balcombe and County Executive Marc Elrich present a proclamation for National Farmer's Day. National Farmer’s Day is a day to honor and thank hardworking farmers who are an integral part of our community’s access to nutritious, sustainable, and high-quality food, bolstering economic growth across sectors while feeding communities throughout our nation.

In 1980, Montgomery County established the 93,000-acre Agricultural Reserve. The Ag Reserve is home to nearly 600 farms and more than 10,000 residents, contributing almost $300 million annually to the County’s economy. They were joined by the Montgomery County Office of Agriculture, the Office of Food Systems Resilience, Montgomery Soil Conservation District, the Montgomery County Food Council and local farmers.
