Caribbean American Heritage Month

On June 10, 2024, Councilmember Laurie-Anne Sayles presented a proclamation recognizing June as Caribbean American Heritage Month. Guests included Jamaican Ambassador His Excellency Major General (Ret'd) Antony Anderson, Maryland State Delegate Jheanelle Wilkins, and Rodrigue Vital, Caribbean Community Liaison for Montgomery County.

During Caribbean American Heritage Month, we honor those who forged a new and proud legacy for future generations in the United States, reflected by the 13 million Americans who are of Caribbean ancestry. Nearly a third of Maryland’s 87,000 Caribbean-born individuals and their children live in Montgomery County, a number that continues to grow, fostering a stronger sense of community and diversity.
