The NAACP's Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO) is a yearlong program designed to recruit, stimulate and encourage high academic and cultural achievement among African-American high school students. This year, eight gold medalists from Montgomery County earned their way to the national competition. On Sept. 20, the Montgomery County Council honored the eight high achievers, including Jamaal Bowman of Northwood High School (speaking), who won a national bronze medal in contemporary dance. Councilmember Craig Rice, who chairs the Council’s Education Committee, presented a proclamation to the winners on behalf of the Council.
