Honoring Pioneers

Montgomery County’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. tribute celebrated the life and legacy of Dr. King through music, arts, dance and performance at the Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda. The theme was “Women of the Dream,” which showcased the tireless efforts and struggle of Coretta Scott King; Fannie Lou Hamer; Willie Pearl Mackey King; Reverend Dr. Ruby Reese Moone and Joan Trumpauer Mulholland. A proclamation commemorating Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Montgomery County was presented by County Executive Marc Elrich and County Council President Nancy Navarro. A visual arts exhibit prepared by County youth interpreting the “Women of the Dream” theme was displayed as well. Jazz violinist Chelsey Green also performed at the event.
