Today Councilmember Craig Rice recognized June 1 to 9, 2019 as Chesapeake Bay Awareness Week by of the Montgomery County Council and presented a proclamation to Director Adam Ortiz from the County’s Department of Environmental Protection. Montgomery County, among other local jurisdictions and organizations, has commemorated the first week of June as Chesapeake Bay Awareness Week with outreach, events and education programming designed to mark the progress and future work needed to restore the Chesapeake Bay. The Chesapeake Bay estuary, the largest in North America and third largest in the world, spans across six states (Delaware, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia) and the District of Columbia, serving as a vital economical, recreational and environmental resource to the approximately 18 million people who live within its watershed and those who visit the region.
