Press Releases - County Council

For Immediate Release: Thursday, March 2, 2023

Montgomery County Recreation’s Praisner’s Project Prom Dress giveaway will also be discussed

ROCKVILLE, Md., March 2, 2023—The featured guests on this week’s En Sintonía con el Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (In Tune with the Montgomery County Council) will include Gaby Romo, psychotherapist, and Carmen Berrios, communications and public outreach manager at Montgomery County Recreation. The show will air tomorrow, March 3 at 2 p.m. on Radio America (WILC 900AM).

This week’s En Sintonía will begin with a discussion about substance abuse and how communication plays an important role in protecting teens from consuming opioids. This is not an easy topic to discuss for many parents and children; however, scientific studies show that how parents speak to their children about this topic can affect their behavior. Ms. Romo will share tips for talking to kids about alcohol and drug use, building trust and listening to their experiences and concerns.

The second half of the show will include information about the second annual Praisner’s Project Prom Dress giveaway. Montgomery County Recreation is collecting gently used and new dresses, suits and accessories to ensure the dream of attending prom can come true for all high school students. The giveaway event will take place on Saturday, April 15 at the Marilyn J. Praisner Community Recreation Center in Burtonsville.

The Council and Radio America have entered a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express their views and ask questions. The partnership includes the weekly one-hour show each Friday on the Washington metropolitan area’s most popular Spanish language station.

Each week, the show features host Marcela Rodriguez, Council program manager and public information officer, and guests talking about important issues before the Council and provides information about programs offered by the County to help residents.
