Press Releases

For Immediate Release: Monday, March 16, 2015

Montgomery County Council President George Leventhal issued the following statement today after County Executive Isiah Leggett transmitted his Fiscal Year 2016 recommended operating budget to the Council:

The County Executive’s recommended operating budget provides a strong foundation as the Council starts work on the final County budget for Fiscal Year 2016. We appreciate the hard work by the Executive and his staff to begin this year’s process.

In recent years, the Great Recession and its aftermath have created serious fiscal challenges for all governments. Now, as the economy continues to recover steadily, we must carefully balance a wide array of County needs. That is what our Council committees and the full Council will undertake over the next two months.

The participation of County residents is essential to this process. The Council’s public hearings on the operating budget are scheduled for April 14-16; residents should call (240) 777-7803 to sign up to speak. Comments and suggestions are welcome via email at [email protected];  via regular mail to: County Council, 100 Maryland Avenue, Rockville, MD 20850; or by calling the Council budget hotline at 240-777-7802. Information on the budget can be found at www.montgomerycountymd.gov/council and by clicking “budget updates.” We look forward to receiving the views of our residents as we move through the budget process.
