For Immediate Release: Wednesday, May 25, 2016

As part of Montgomery County’s 17th annual Recycling Awareness Week, the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) recognized outstanding achievements in recycling, waste reduction, reuse, buying recycled-content products, and educational efforts by local businesses, organizations, multi-family apartment and condominium properties, residents and individuals for their contributions to increase recycling.  These efforts support the County’s goal to reduce waste and recycle 70 percent by 2020. Recycling more materials at home, work and school will ensure clean land, air and water for everyone living, working and visiting the County, and will encourage continued economic growth.

Honorees were announced at the Recycling Achievement Recognition Program held today at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center. Mr. Joseph Pickard, Chief Economist and Director of Commodities at The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, Inc. in Washington, D.C. was the featured speaker.  Mr. Pickard discussed the economic impacts, drivers and outlook on the recycling industry, and encouraged the award recipients to continue their efforts to recycle more.

Council Vice President Roger Berliner and Council Member Tom Hucker joined DEP Director Lisa Feldt to thank award recipients for their dedication and commitment to protecting the environment.
