Ribbon-Cutting Celebration Opens the Montgomery County Public Libraries’ Quince Orchard Branch

Hundreds of residents turned out today for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to reopen the Montgomery County Public Libraries’ (MCPL) Quince Orchard branch. The library is located at 15831 Quince Orchard Road in Gaithersburg.The library had been closed to be “refreshed” under the Library Refurbishment Level-of-Effort initiative in the County’s Capital Improvement Program.

 

County Executive Ike Leggett was joined by Council President Hans Riemer, Councilmembers Sidney Katz and George Leventhal, City of Gaithersburg Councilmember Laurie-Anne Sayles, Department of General Services Director David Dise, Acting Director of MCPL Anita Vassallo, Quince Orchard Library Manager James Stewart, Quince Orchard Friends of the Library President Dawn Fairbanks and members of the community.

 

“It is a pleasure to reopen this refreshed Quince Orchard Branch,” said Leggett. “Providing quality facilities requires strong fiscal management and smart planning. The refresh model saves our residents tens of thousands of dollars and keeps our libraries in good repair.”

 

The improvements to the library included new flooring and painting throughout the library, renovated public restrooms, improved book checkout and customer service area, a new book drop, LED lighting, enhancements to the meeting room, modern furniture and workstations in public and workroom areas, motorized shades, and exterior accessibility (ADA) improvements to the grounds and parking lot and a new bike rack at the entrance.

 

The cost for the Quince Orchard refresh project was approximately $ 1.1 million. Okks/Delta Engineers, Architects and Land Surveyors served as the architect for the project. Keller Brothers, Inc. was the contractor.

 

The County Library Capital Grant Program, Maryland State Department of Education, Division of Library Development and Services, as authorized by the Maryland General Assembly and supported by the Montgomery County Delegation, provided partial funding for the project. The Friends of the Library, Quince Orchard Chapter donated funds for the staff workroom furniture.

 

The library opened immediately after the ribbon cutting. The Friends of the Library Quince Orchard Chapter provided refreshments. Tune'n Music Group and Harpist Judith Mostyn White provided entertainment.

Branch hours will be: Sunday 1-5 p.m., Monday -Thursday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
