Montgomery County Receives Recognition for Excellence in Financial Reporting

For Immediate Release: Thursday, June 7, 2018

Montgomery County recently received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.

Montgomery County was recognized for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the year ending June 30, 2017.

The County has received this award 48 times since 1951 and consecutively for 46 years since 1972 – more than any other county in the nation. This award represents the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

“It is an honor to receive this national recognition for the County’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report,” said County Executive Isiah Leggett.  “Under the leadership of our Finance director, Alexandre Espinosa, the County continues to serve our residents with consistent and outstanding comprehensive financial reporting.”

Montgomery County’s CAFR was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.

GFOA is a non-profit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals in the U.S.
