For Immediate Release: Tuesday, August 14, 2018

County residents are invited to participate in two community meetings to learn about using data to improve health. "Envisioning Equity in Montgomery County Using Data," will give attendees an opportunity to learn about various data sources that can help identify community health needs and to participate in discussions with stakeholders including local health providers, health plans, County government agencies, nonprofit organizations and academic institutions about ways to share data across sectors and use shared data to improve population health.

The meetings will be held on the following days at the Silver Spring Civic Building, located at 1 Veterans Plaza:

  • Friday, September 7, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 20, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Meeting session topics include:

  • How where you live may impact your health;
  • What county health data is available;
  • How real-time data is used to track health and social needs in the county;
  • How to make a health map of your own community;
  • How to boost your mental health and reduce stress and anxiety;
  • How to get involved in a community garden project;
  • Ways to use and share your community data to support positive change; and
  • How the County works with residents to improve communities.

Data labs will be available for participants to engage in hands-on learning activities.

Resource tables hosted by Healthy Montgomery and other community health-improvement partners will feature information on getting active, eating well, where to go to access care and services and upcoming health-related events in the community.  Food, refreshments, prizes and health-related activities will also be available.

Healthy Montgomery, launched in 2009, is the County's community health improvement process, and is an ongoing effort that brings together diverse stakeholders to collaborate with the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services to identify the County's health priorities and align community assets and resources to address them.
