Deadline for Entries for 2019 Wheaton Arts Parade and Festival Poster Contest Extended to Jan. 31

For Immediate Release: Monday, January 14, 2019

Montgomery College and high school students can submit designs to illustrate themes for September event that will highlight the arts in Downtown Wheaton

The next Wheaton Arts Parade and Festival may be eight months away, but the planning is already in motion for the annual event that grows in stature each year. Entries are still being accepted from Montgomery County college and high school students for the poster design contest that will add to the enthusiasm of the 2019 event.

The artist of the winning design will receive a $300 prize and will get to work with Wheaton artists on the details that will refine their design into a promotional poster. High school and college students from Montgomery County are eligible to submit original designs for the poster contest.

Design entries should use no more than five colors and should include space for graphic elements that will be added with event information, such as a logo, hash tag and web address. The winning student will have an opportunity to work with one of the Wheaton Arts Parade professional graphic designers to refine their design for the production of promotional materials. Only digital entries will be accepted. Entries should be 8.5 x 11 inches and saved as a 300 dpi to-size JPEG or vector PDF format. In addition to the design, entries must include the artist’s first and last name, mailing address, phone number and email address. Also to be included are the student’s school, grade and art teacher/adviser’s name.

Entries should be submitted online to info@wheatonartsparade.org. The subject line should be “Poster Contest.”

The Wheaton Arts Parade and Festival celebrates local artists and brings together the County’s diverse cultures for a day of fun and creativity. The parade will march along Georgia Avenue with original floats and costumes, dancing, music and surprises. It will be followed by a festival with music and dance performances, films, readings and food of many types. There were more than 40 booths where artists exhibited and sold their work in each of the first two years of the festival.
