ROCKVILLE, Md., Feb. 28, 2019—Melissa Rivera, spokesperson of Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), and Oliver Fajardo, project manager for the Career Readiness Education Academy, will be the featured guest of “El Momento Cívico/The Civic Moment” on En Sintonía con el Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (Tuned in with the Montgomery County Council), this Friday, Mar. 1 at 2 p.m. on Radio America (now on WILC 900AM).  Melissa Rivera will talk about the availability of the Elementary Language Immersion Interest Form for all MCPS students entering Kindergarten to Grade 5.  MCPS offers Spanish, French, and Chinese elementary immersion programs at seven schools.

She will also talk about the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program and how students can benefit and apply for this program.

Oliver Fajardo will discuss CREA, a professional preparation program for older English Language Learners (ELLs) of MCPS who are unable to meet the graduation requirements before reaching 21 years of age. Many ELLs in the CREA program are students with limited or incomplete formal education. CREA students are offered opportunities to learn English language skills, basic job skills and obtain industry certifications.

The Montgomery County Council and Radio America have entered a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express views and ask questions. The partnership includes the weekly one-hour show each Friday on the Washington metropolitan area’s most popular Spanish language station. Lilian Mass is the show’s host.

Each week, the show features guests talking about important issues before the Council and provides information about programs offered by the County to help residents.
