ROCKVILLE, Md., March 15, 2019--Gisela Martinez, LCSW-C, Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services; Ingrid Lizama, community health educator for the Latino Health Initiative; Luis Aguirre, specialist, Family Reunification Program; Dr. Gabriela Romo, bilingual counselor who works with immigrants and Carla M. Julian, senior manager, Public Affairs/Community Outreach, Purple Line Transit Partners, will be the featured guests on this week’s episode of En Sintonia con el Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (In Tune with the Montgomery County Council), airing today at 2 p.m. on Radio America (WILC 900AM).

In the first part of the program, the guests will discuss the topic of suicide among teenagers and adults, and the resources available at the county level to people experiencing suicidal ideation and to the family members and friends of people contemplating suicide.

In the second segment of the program, the Latino Health Initiative’s family reunification efforts will be discussed. These efforts focus on helping individuals and families who face the challenge of adjusting to life in the United States and in Montgomery County. Some of these residents carry trauma from being separated from close family members and from the violence they were exposed to in their countries of origin and on their journeys to the US.

In the show’s final segment, Carla Julian will share details of the progress made on Metro’s Purple Line, which is a 16-mile light rail line that will extend from Bethesda to New Carrollton. The Purple Line will provide a direct connection to the Metrorail Red, Green and Orange Lines at Bethesda, Silver Spring, College Park and New Carrollton.

The Montgomery County Council and Radio America have entered a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express views and ask questions. The partnership includes the weekly one-hour show each Friday on the Washington metropolitan area’s most popular Spanish language station. Lilian Mass is the show’s host.

Each week, the show features guests talking about important issues before the Council and provides information about programs offered by the County to help residents.
