In advance of critical votes by the Maryland Board of Public Works to approve the Public-Private Partnership for the proposed Beltway/I-270 Widening, Councilmember Tom Hucker, Chair of the Council’s Transportation & Environment Committee, has organized a Town Hall about widespread community concerns regarding current plans to widen the Capital Beltway and I-270 to add toll lanes.

Speakers will include a panel of officials comprising the following:

  • Council President Nancy Navarro.
  • County Executive Marc Elrich.
  • Del. Kumar Barve, chairman of the House Environment and Transportation Committee.
  • Carol Rubin, special project manager for the I-495 and I-270 Managed Lanes Study for the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission.
  • Staff from state Treasurer Nancy Kopp’s office.

Also speaking will be U.S. Rep. Anthony Brown, whose district includes the Beltway in Prince George’s County, plus representatives from groups including the Maryland Sierra Club, Citizens Against Beltway Expansion, Action Committee for Transit, Friends of Sligo Creek, Carderock Springs Civic Association, and others.
