Council to begin review of Committee recommendations for the Fiscal Year 2020 Operating Budget on May 6

The Council meeting on Monday, May 6 will begin at 9:30 a.m. Individuals interested in attending a Council meeting should confirm the information on the day of the meeting by visiting the Council’s web page or by calling the Council’s Communication Office at 240-777-7832. All meetings are held in the Council Office Building (100 Maryland Ave., Rockville, MD.) in the third-floor hearing room, unless otherwise noted.

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
The Council will begin its meeting by commemorating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, which is recognized nationally throughout the month of May. This special event will include a prepared video segment focused on youth voices on racial equity in the Asian American and Pacific Islander community and a proclamation presentation by Council President Nancy Navarro.

Worksession-Fiscal Year 2020 (FY20) Operating Budget and FY19-24 Capital Improvements Program (CIP) Amendments:

Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission
The Council will review the operating budget for the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC). For FY20 the total proposed operating budget is $817.4 million, which is an increase of $35.8 million or 4.6 percent from the Approved FY19 Operating Budget. The proposed rate increase for FY20 is 5 percent.

Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC)
The Council will review the operating budget for the M-NCPPC. The Executive recommends an FY20 Recommended Budget of $129,265,933, which is an increase of $1 million or 0.8 percent over the FY19 Approved Operating Budget. The Planning, Housing, and Economic Development Committee recommended restoring a $100,000 transfer from the Cable fund to the Parks fund for the Connected Parks Initiative, which expands Wi-Fi technology in public spaces.
