For Immediate Release: Friday, May 10, 2019

ROCKVILLE, Md., May 10, 2019—Montgomery County Council President Nancy Navarro made the following statement on behalf of the Council as it relates to a video that surfaced on social media involving a Montgomery County Police Officer using racist language.

“The Montgomery County Council is aware of a disturbing video that was posted on social media where one of our County police officers is heard using racist language. I understand that the Montgomery County Police Department has already started investigating the police officers and other parties involved. These actions are not representative of the high expectations we hold our County’s police officers and it is my expectation that the individuals involved will be held accountable for these offensive actions. We are and will continue to be an inclusive County and it is imperative that we continue our work to engage in education and outreach to sensitize our residents on the harmful effects of racism on the residents of our communities.”
