Montgomery County Permitting Services Department Celebrates Building Safety Month with Free Deck Inspections

For Immediate Release: Monday, May 20, 2019

The Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services (DPS) is providing free deck inspections for single family detached homes, townhomes and duplexes throughout the month of May as part of its celebration of Building Safety Month.

The 39th annual Building Safety Month theme is: “No Code. No Confidence.”

Modern, regularly updated building codes and a strong system of code enforcement ensure that individuals and communities are safe in the buildings where they live, work and play. These codes build confidence. From hurricanes and tornadoes to wildfires and earthquakes, building codes are increasingly important to the safety, health and well-being of families and communities.

Montgomery County celebrates Building Safety Month to raise awareness about building safety and to honor the County’s code officials, educators and building professionals who are committed to keeping built communities safe.

“Building Safety is no accident,” said Hadi Mansouri, DPS acting director. “Building plan reviewers and inspectors are your first preventers. When we work with the community, together we can prevent the loss and damages to property or the tragic loss of life.”

It’s not too late to schedule your deck inspection. Montgomery County residents, with the exception of City of Gaithersburg and City of Rockville residents (because the municipalities have their own permitting departments), should call 3-1-1 or 240-777-0311, between now and May 31, to schedule their free deck inspection.  The inspections will include a Deck Maintenance Checklist. All requests received during the month of May will be honored.
