Business Connect to Launch in Silver Spring on Monday, August 5

For Immediate Release: Friday, July 26, 2019

Montgomery County’s Business Solutions Group will expand its Business Connect program to the Silver Spring regional area on Monday, Aug. 5. The official Business Connect launch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at the Silver Spring Library, located at 900 Wayne Avenue in Silver Spring.

“Business Connect is a new program of my administration to bring classes, counseling and connections to support businesses where they are located,” said County Executive Marc Elrich. “We piloted the program with our partners at the Upcounty Regional Services Center in the spring, and now we are launching our Silver Spring presence this summer. In the future, we will expand the program to other regional areas including East County, Bethesda and Mid-County.”

Montgomery County’s Business Connect partners include the Maryland Women’s Business Center, the Latino Economic Development Center, Maryland Small Business Development Center and Life Asset. Classes are a key component and the program offers free and low-cost business workshops and training sessions that are taught by the County’s partners. The classes feature a variety of topics from marketing a business to financial planning to negotiating a lease. The Montgomery County Business Portal calendar includes information about upcoming Business Connect classes.

“Making connections is important for business owners,” said Montgomery County Assistant Chief Administrative Officer Jerome Fletcher who oversees economic development. “This new program connects businesses with the resources they need to grow and thrive. In addition, it offers new and existing business owners counseling. We want business owners to know we are here to help if they need assistance or have questions.”

The Business Connect program will be offered in several locations in the Silver Spring regional area including the Long Branch Community Center, the Long Branch Library, and the Silver Spring Library.

The Business Connect program is managed by the Business Solutions Group, which includes the County’s small business navigator and business liaison officers.
