MCDOT shared in the community excitement over the grand opening of the new Wheaton Library and Community Recreation Center on Sunday, September 8, with an opening of its own: a new 15-dock Capital Bikeshare station installed at 11701 Georgia Avenue, ideally located for users of the newest county facilities. The new bikeshare station is the 84th in the county and will make it easier for people to visit the library, rec center and the Wheaton Local Park without getting in a car. Through Commuter Services, MCDOT offers both docked and dockless bikeshare connecting riders throughout Montgomery County.
Ride On staff were also on hand at the grand opening to introduce residents to Ride On Flex, the new on-demand transit option serving many Wheaton and Glenmont residents. The Flex’s 3:30 – 7:00 p.m. afternoon service window in Glenmont/Wheaton is ideal for many library and rec center users. At the grand opening, an 11-passenger Flex bus shuttled residents from the overflow parking garage on Amherst Avenue to the event.
Through Ride On staff outreach, residents also learned about the expanded Kids Ride Free program on all Ride On buses, as well as the benefits of the Senior SmarTrip® card.
