Senior Planet Montgomery Fall Class Registration Opens September 30

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, September 11, 2019

Fall registration is open for free Senior Planet Montgomery technology classes starting Monday, Sept. 30. Designed for learners age 60 and older, participants learn to confidently use technology to improve their financial security and health, open a new business, improve their ability to live independently, or just use the internet for better daily living

Senior Planet Montgomery’s classes meet twice a week for five or 10 weeks, depending on the course.  These free classes will be offered at Gilchrist Immigrant Resource Center in Wheaton; Margaret Schweinhaut Senior Center; Gaithersburg Library; Holiday Park Senior Center; Aspen Hill Library; North Potomac Senior Center; Silver Spring Library; White Oak Recreation Center; and the new Wheaton Library and Community Recreation Center. Course instruction, books, and devices to use in class are also provided at no charge to participants.

DESCRIPTIONS –                            

ACTivate (10-week): This course empowers older adults to be changemakers by combining technology and advocacy skills. You will improve your online research skills and learn how to reach elected representatives. Prerequisites: You must have an email address that you use. You should also be comfortable using a PC to navigate websites and search for information on the internet.

Beyond the Basics (10-week): In this course you’ll learn to use the Internet as a resource for practical and enriching activities, from social networking and online shopping to online banking, health management, entertainment, and more! Prerequisites: Some comfort with using email, navigating websites, and searching for information online.

Computer Basics (10-week): In this course you’ll learn the basics of how to operate a computer and navigate the Internet in ways that can enrich your life.  During the course, you’ll learn how to use email, search the Internet for information, access sources of entertainment, and connect to people, organizations and interests that matter to you. Prerequisites: None

Computer Essentials (5-week): In this course you’ll learn the basic functions of a personal computer, how to navigate the Internet, and how to send and receive email. You’ll also explore how to use online resources. Prerequisites: None

iPad Basics (10-week): In this course you’ll learn the basics of operating the Apple iPad, using email, internet searching, downloading apps, connecting with others, and so much more! Prerequisites: None

iPad Essentials (5-week): In this course you’ll learn the essentials of how to use the Apple iPad, how to navigate the internet, and how to send and receive email. Prerequisites: None

Startup! (10-week): The goal of this course is to help you get your small business off the ground utilizing online resources for branding, marketing, and fundraising. Prerequisites: This course is best suited for those who already have a business idea. You must have an email address that you use and should also be comfortable using a PC to navigate websites, search for information on the internet, and upload and download files.

Social Media (5-week): This course will take you through many of the most popular social media tools used worldwide by internet users of all ages, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and more. Prerequisites: Ability to use email comfortably, navigate websites and search for information on the Internet

Conceptos Esenciales de la Computadora (Computer Essentials, 5 semanas):  Este curso repasar los conceptos esenciales de cómo usar una computadora personal, cómo navegar el internet y cómo usar correo electrónico. Prerrequisitos: Ningún

El Dinero Importa (Money Matters, 10 semanas): Aprenderá cómo desarrollar hábitos inteligentes, financieros, sobre recursos en línea, estrategias para el manejo del dinero, cómo reducir gastos, y cómo identificar nuevas oportunidades de ingresos. Prerrequisitos: Familiaridad con correo electrónico, capacidad de navegar en sitios web, y poder realizar investigaciones en internet.
