MCDOT to Upgrade Payment Systems in Bethesda Garages

For Immediate Release: Thursday, September 12, 2019

Centralized Pay Stations to Offer Residents Greater FlexibilityPay by space parking system

MCDOT will begin modernizing the payment systems in six Bethesda parking facilities next week. Existing single space meters will be removed and replaced with centralized pay stations in Garages 35, 36, 40, 42 and 57 as well as Lot 25. The new pay by space parking system operates like single space meters where customers estimate their duration and prepay prior to leaving for their destination. Hours of operation, parking rates and durations in these facilities will remain unchanged.

The system overhaul delivers several new conveniences for residents, including more payment options. Residents can pay with coins, bills ($1 and $5 only), credit cards and pay by cell.  Pay stations do not give change. The pay by cell options allow for impending expiration reminders and the ability to add or stop time remotely. Residents pay for parking and can also add time at any of the conveniently located pay stations. Pay stations prompt users in multiple languages.
