For Immediate Release: Monday, September 23, 2019

ROCKVILLE, Md., Sept. 23, 2019—Today County Executive Marc Elrich announced his intent to nominate Acting Police Chief Marcus Jones to serve as the new police chief for Montgomery County.  Council President Nancy Navarro’s statement on this issue is below.

“I have had the distinct pleasure of working with Acting Montgomery County Police Chief Marcus Jones throughout my tenure on the Council.  Jones has held numerous positions in the department including assistant police chief, captain and acting chief, and he knows Montgomery County inside and out.

“In my opinion Jones has always been a strong contender for this post and has comported himself with professionalism throughout the selection process. I believe that Jones will be a transformational leader that the men and women of the police department and all community members can put their trust in to provide outstanding public safety services while cultivating a better understanding of the needs of our diverse community through community policing practices.

“I look forward to County Executive Elrich sending over his nomination for the next police chief, and like all other potential candidates, the Council will conduct its due diligence in reviewing this nomination.”
