For Immediate Release: Tuesday, September 24, 2019
Local businesses and organizations took advantage of a beautiful day last Friday, September 20, to transform parking spaces around the county into fun, park-like spaces to inspire passersby to reimagine the urban landscape for a day. International PARK(ing) Day draws artists, planners, businesses, organizations, groups and individuals annually to temporarily convert a metered parking space into a surprising oasis on an urban street.
In Silver Spring, parkets were designed by Montgomery Parks, the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission and Torti Gallas + Partners on Ellsworth Drive between Veterans Plaza and Fenton Street. In Bethesda, Bethesda Green and Bethesda Transportation Solutions sprouted parkets on Norfolk Avenue.
The spaces supported lawn games, streetside café tables, a children’s pool and an art station, among other activities.
