Unity Walk and Resource Fair; Many Faiths, One Community

For Immediate Release: Thursday, October 3, 2019

County Executive Marc Elrich will join community faith leaders for a Unity Walk and Resource Fair on Sunday, October 13.  Hosted by the Montgomery County Executive’s Faith Community Advisory Council in partnership with the Chinmaya Mission Washington Regional Center, the People’s Community Baptist Church, Muslim Community Center, Beth Chai Humanist Community, First Alliance Church, the Transfiguration Episcopal Church, and the Cambodian Buddhist Society, the Resource Fair starts at 1 p.m. and the Unity Walk at 2:15 p.m. at James H. Blake High School, 300 Norwood Road in Silver Spring.

There will be an Opening Ceremony at 1:30 p.m. featuring Bloom at Strathmore’s Sara Curtin, and instrumental calls to prayer from five faith traditions.  The Unity Walk will take place with Ride On bus service assistance, bringing and returning people from sites along Norwood Road and New Hampshire Avenue.

Ride On buses will provide service throughout the afternoon for touring houses of worship along New Hampshire Avenue, also known as the “Highway to Heaven.”  There will be a police escort and buses will return people to their cars at Blake High School.  This event is an opportunity to deepen the understanding of different cultures and faiths and celebrating the unity in diversity.

Montgomery County Government and nonprofit partners are the Montgomery County Police Department, the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services, Bloom by Strathmore, and Interfaith Network of Montgomery County.
