Council Committee Meetings for Oct. 10

The following committee meetings are scheduled for Thursday Oct. 10. Individuals interested in attending a committee meeting should confirm the information on the day of the meeting by visiting the Council’s web page at tinyurl.com/CountyCouncilMeetings or by calling the Council’s Communications Office at 240-777-7931.

Meeting: Health and Human Services (HHS) Committee
Time: 8:30 a.m.
Location: Third floor hearing room
HHS Committee: Councilmembers Gabe Albornoz (Chair), Evan Glass (Lead for Homelessness and Vulnerable Communities) and Craig Rice
Topic:
Health and Human Services Boards and Commissions
The HHS Committee will meet with representatives of the Department of Health and Human Services’ boards and commissions to discuss how the County’s advisory boards and commissions can further the County’s policy priorities. Dr. Raymond Crowel, director of the Department of Health and Human Services, is among those expected to attend.

Meeting: Transportation and Environment (T&E) Committee
Time: 2 p.m.
Location: Seventh floor hearing room
T&E Committee: Councilmembers Tom Hucker (Chair), Evan Glass and Hans Riemer
Topic:
Bill 36-18, Transportation Management – Transportation Demand Management Plan – Amendments
The T&E Committee will review Bill 36-18. Councilmember Hans Riemer is the lead sponsor, at the request of the County Executive. Bill 36-18 would do the following:

  • expand transportation demand management to reduce traffic congestion and automobile emissions, support multi-modal transportation and non-automobile travel goals, enhance the efficient use of transportation infrastructure and promote the sustainability of existing and future development; and
  • establish the requirements for a transportation demand management plan for development in certain areas of the County.

The goal of this legislation is to reduce traffic congestion and automobile emissions and to support multi-modal transportation.
