Press Releases - County Council

Health issues caused by vaping and diabetes in the Latino community are the topics of “En Sintonía con el Concejo del Condado,” Friday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. on Radio America

For Immediate Release: Friday, November 8, 2019

ROCKVILLE, Md., Nov. 7, 2019—Lillian Cruz, deputy chief of staff for Councilmember Gabe Albornoz, and Dr. Livan Rodriguez, who treats patients at Proyecto Salud (Project Health), will be the featured guests on En Sintonía con El Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (In Tune with the Montgomery County Council), on Friday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. on Radio America (WILC 900AM). The guests will discuss three bills, Board of Health Regulations and a zoning change currently under consideration by the Council on the distribution of electronic cigarettes in the County. These legislative measures would address the vaping and nicotine epidemic occurring among young people by taking measures locally to protect students and restrict the distribution of e-cigarettes and vaping products. The guests will discuss the negative health impacts of nicotine and vaping products on young people. Councilmember Albornoz, who chairs the Council’s Health and Human Services Committee and serves on the Public Safety Committee, is a lead co-sponsor of all four legislative measures.

Dr. Livan Rodriguez also will share information related to diabetes and its impact on the Latino community, and discuss resources available to residents who are diabetic. November is National Diabetes Awareness Month.

The Montgomery County Council and Radio America have entered a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express views and ask questions. The partnership includes the weekly one-hour show each Friday on the Washington metropolitan area’s most popular Spanish language station. Lilian Mass is the show’s host.

Each week, the show features guests talking about important issues before the Council and provides information about programs offered by the County to help residents.

Video links with a summary of the show are available each week at the County Council's mobile friendly web site at: www.montgomerycountymd.gov/council .
