ROCKVILLE, Md., Dec. 11, 2019—This morning Councilmember Nancy Navarro was elected Co-Vice President of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (MWCOG), an organization that connects leaders in local jurisdictions in the Washington metropolitan area. MWCOG aims to shape strong communities and meet the region’s biggest challenges. Councilmember Navarro was elected in 2014 to serve on MWCOG’s Board of Directors and just completed her one-year term as president of the Montgomery County Council. This year Navarro also was recognized in Washingtonian Magazine’s list of “Women in Washington—The 150 Most Powerful.”
“It is an honor and privilege to have been elected as Co-Vice President for the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments,” said Councilmember Navarro, who chairs the Council’s Government Operations and Fiscal Policy Committee and is a member of the Education and Culture Committee. “I look forward to collaborating with my counterparts on the MWCOG Board, Chair Phyllis Randall, Mayor Muriel Bowser and Mayor Kate Stewart, as we build upon the great work done by MWCOG previously and address common opportunities and challenges through a regional lens.”
