ROCKVILLE, Md., Dec. 19, 2019—Mayra Cruz-Solís, civic engagement specialist and Hispanic outreach liaison with the Montgomery County Council; Blanca Kling, Hispanic liaison with the Public Information Office of the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD); and Patricia Rosales-McMillan, therapist with the Montgomery County Crisis Center, will be the featured guests of this prerecorded episode of “The Civic Moment / El Momento Cívico”, airing this Friday, Dec. 20 at 2 p.m. on Radio America (WILC 900AM). The guests will discuss how to stay safe during the holiday season, how to prevent theft of mailed packages and MCPD’s Christmas plan. Patricia Rosales-McMillan also will share positive mental health strategies for coping with stressful aspects of the holiday season. She also will provide information about the services the Crisis Center offers to the community. This prerecorded program originally aired on Dec. 6.
“El Momento Cívico/The Civic Moment” is one component of Council President Navarro’s Latino Civic Project that features topics related to civic engagement and understanding the various functions of County government. Council President Navarro started the Latino Civic Project in 2012 to promote and strengthen civic participation among Latinos and immigrants. The Montgomery County Council and Radio America have entered a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express views and ask questions. The partnership includes the weekly one-hour show each Friday on the Washington metropolitan area’s most popular Spanish language station. Lilian Mass is the show’s host.
Each week, the show features guests talking about important issues before the Council and provides information about programs offered by the County to help residents.
