Registration Now Open for 2020 County Energy Summit, Which Expands to Two Days on Wednesday, April 1, and Thursday, April 2, in Silver Spring

Registration is now open for the seventh annual Montgomery County Energy Summit, which this year will expand to a two-day event on Wednesday, April 1, and Thursday, April 2, at the Silver Spring Civic Building. The Energy Summit, which previously focused solely on promoting commercial energy efficiency and the use of clean energy in the County and the Washington, D.C.-Maryland-Virginia region, will use the expanded schedule to explore energy efficiency for both commercial buildings and residences.

The Silver Spring Civic Building is located at 1 Veterans Place in Downtown Silver Spring. It is accessible from the Metro Red Line at the Silver Spring station. The Summit will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday.

The Summit will be co-hosted by Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the US Green Building Council National Capital Region (USGBC NCR).

New for 2020 will be a second day of exploring energy in the residential sector. Topics will address energy needs for single-family and multi-family developers, building operators and Montgomery County residents.

Early bird tickets are $75 for entry to both days. Single-day tickets are $50 for Day 1 (commercial); $35 for Day 2 (residential). Early bird ticket sales end March 6 (or March 31 if the attendee is a government employee). Regular online ticket prices are available after March 6. For entry on both days, regular tickets are $100. Regular single-day tickets are $70 for Day 1 (commercial) and $50 for Day 2 (residential).

The Summit will include a keynote presentation, breakout education sessions, an Expo Area featuring the latest in sustainable products and services, breakfast and lunch on both days and a reception on Wednesday.

In its first six years, the Summit offered cutting-edge education focused on the latest trends in energy efficiency, renewable energy and related issues. Its core audience has included building owners, property managers, energy contractors and other green building professionals working in the County and the Delaware-Maryland-Virginia area.

The theme for this year’s Summit is “A Path to Zero.”  It will explore strategies, technologies and case studies focused on the commercial, multi-family and residential built environments that are helping the County toward its ambitious climate goal of carbon neutrality by 2035.

The Summit will include in-depth workshops on innovative energy projects, renewable energy technologies, sustainable building strategies and County and other regional energy efficiency programs. More information on the Energy Summit is available at https://tinyurl.com/rugu3t7.

Following Day 1 of Energy Summit, there will be a networking reception at the Civic Building, which is included with registration.

Day 2 of the Summit will focus on single-family and multi-family topics. Daytime sessions will require a ticket. From 4-7 p.m., the Summit will open to the public for a free, super-sized Energy Roadshow in the Civic Building’s Great Hall.

The Energy Roadshow is addresses all things energy-related in the County, including home comfort, avoiding scams, ENERGY STAR devices, electric vehicles, renewable energy and how to pay for home upgrade projects.  It will have an open house setting.
