County response to Supreme Court ‘public charge’ decision is focus of “En Sintonía con el Concejo del Condado,” today at 2 p.m. on Radio America

For Immediate Release: Friday, February 7, 2020

ROCKVILLE, Md., Feb. 7, 2020—Lillian Cruz, deputy chief of staff with the Office of Councilmember Gabe Albornoz, and Silverio Coy, immigration attorney, will be the featured guests on En Sintonía con el Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (In Tune with the Montgomery County Council), airing today at 2 p.m. on Radio America (WILC 900AM). The guests will discuss the Jan. 27 decision of the U.S. Supreme Court regarding the Trump administration’s change to the current public charge regulation, which would create major barriers and hardships for low-income immigrants seeking to enter or remain legally in the U.S. They will provide information and discuss resources available in the County for residents concerned about this regulation and its potential impact on them and their families. Councilmembers Albornoz and Nancy Navarro introduced a resolution this week condemning the Supreme Court’s decision and calling for comprehensive immigration reform.

The Montgomery County Council and Radio America have entered a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express views and ask questions. The partnership includes the weekly one-hour show each Friday on the Washington metropolitan area’s most popular Spanish language station. Lilian Mass is the show’s host.

Each week, the show features guests talking about important issues before the Council and provides information about programs offered by the County to help residents.
