Inspiring women leaders and International Women’s Day are the focus of “The Civic Moment/El Momento Cívico,” today at 2 p.m. on Radio America

ROCKVILLE, Md., Feb. 28, 2020—Mayra Cruz-Solís, civic engagement specialist and Hispanic outreach liaison with the Montgomery County Council; Nelly Carrión, director and proprietor of the newspaper Washington Hispanic; Dora Escobar, entrepreneur with multiple businesses in Montgomery County; and Liana Montecinos, immigration attorney and executive director of United for Social Justice, will be the featured guests of this month’s “The Civic Moment / El Momento Cívico” on En Sintonía con El Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (In Tune with the Montgomery County Council), airing today at 2 p.m. on Radio America (WILC 900AM). International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 of each year, and to mark the occasion, today’s program will highlight the exceptional lives of its guests, whose hard work, entrepreneurship and activism have enriched many lives in Montgomery County. The guests will share what it means to them to be a successful woman and discuss how the next generation of women leaders can succeed.

“El Momento Cívico/The Civic Moment” is one component of Councilmember Navarro’s Latino Civic Project that features topics related to civic engagement and understanding the various functions of County government. Councilmember Navarro started the Latino Civic Project in 2012 to promote and strengthen civic participation among Latinos and immigrants. The Montgomery County Council and Radio America have entered a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express views and ask questions. The partnership includes the weekly one-hour show each Friday on the Washington metropolitan area’s most popular Spanish language station. Lilian Mass is the show’s host.

Each week, the show features guests talking about important issues before the Council and provides information about programs offered by the County to help residents.
