For Immediate Release: Monday, April 6, 2020
ROCKVILLE, Md., April 6, 2020—Council President Sidney Katz made the following statement upon learning that two Montgomery County Public Schools food and nutrition staff members tested positive for Covid-19.
Tonight the Council sends its thoughts and wishes for a swift recovery to two Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) food and nutrition services staff members who tested positive for Covid-19. We are also thinking about those who are in self-quarantine and our entire school community. The individuals who tested positive participated in Glen Haven Elementary School's Grab-and-Go food distribution operation in Wheaton. This food distribution site is part of the school system's expansive effort to ensure that students receive nutritious meals during the pandemic
MCPS' emergency meals service is a shining example of how our community members are coming together during this time of anxiety and stress to make life better for others in the midst of this health crisis. We thank everyone at MCPS for their ongoing efforts during this difficult time.
Even in this unprecedented time of uncertainty, I do not want our residents to lose hope for our future. Your county and state leaders, medical experts, community partners and residents are working together each and every day to do all that we can to help stop the spread of this deadly virus. We are in this fight together, and our unified effort is what will enable our county to emerge from this crisis with an even stronger sense of community.
We continue to call on each of our residents to join us in helping to stop the spread of Covid-19. Stay home unless travel is essential, wash your hands and contact your health care provider if you become sick. Also, new guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends wearing a cloth face mask covering in public in addition to practicing physical distancing. Right now, these are the only tools we have to stop the spread of this virus. We must all work together to maintain good health for ourselves, our families and our more than one million residents.
