For Immediate Release: Monday, May 11, 2020
The 10th anniversary of the Taste the World of Fenton Village celebration in Fenton Village in Silver Spring will take place Sunday, May 17, through Saturday, May 23, with more than two dozen local restaurants offering their unique fares.
Over the past decade, the event has brought hundreds of people into Fenton Village to celebrate authentic ethnic food and independent small restaurant owners.
This year is different as visitors cannot eat in the restaurants due to the executive order of Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, but they will be able to carry out the unique tastes of the Fenton Village eateries. With the emphasis on ensuring that community health is protected, the event will not have some of the social aspects of past years, but there will be no compromises on the rich cultural traditions and flavorful meals for which the Taste the World of Fenton Village is known for.
“While we can’t have the usual street festival, we can still celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Taste the World of Fenton Village. This year, you have an entire week to check out some of the great offerings in Fenton Village,” said County Executive Marc Elrich. “Fenton Village is a welcoming community made up of hard-working small businesses owners who have always planned special menus and tastings to make this a great experience for attendees and that tradition continues this year. I hope everyone, who is able, will join the event at least one time during the week.”
The event will not include the traditional tastings, rather the event expands to a full week to allow people try a variety of different food selections.
Everyone who orders food from a participating Fenton Village restaurant will be eligible for a raffle ticket to win three, $50 "Fenton Village Bucks" to use when it is safe to dine in Fenton Village restaurants. To enter the raffle, after placing their orders, customers can complete this electronic form for each restaurant visited.
Participants are encouraged to share a selfie when picking up carryout during the event and include which restaurant you ordered from on the Taste of Fenton Village Facebook.
