Statement from Council President Sidney Katz on the passing of Michael James O'Connor

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, June 3, 2020

ROCKVILLE, Md., June 3, 2020—Montgomery County Council President Sidney Katz issued the following statement on the death of Michael James O'Connor who lost his life while working on a Montgomery County Department of Transportation construction site in Montgomery County. The fatal vehicle crash occurred on June 1 near the intersection of Old Georgetown Road and Executive Boulevard.

The Council sends its deepest condolences to the family of Michael James O'Connor, and we are keeping them in our thoughts as we collectively mourn his passing. In addition, we are thinking about Mr. O'Connor's coworkers and friends who are also grieving his sudden loss from the fatal vehicle crash.

Montgomery County government remains committed to advancing the principles of Vision Zero which starts with the ethical belief that everyone has the right to move safely in their communities by establishing safe systems for travel.
