ROCKVILLE, Md., June 16, 2020—On Wednesday, June 17 at 11:30AM, Councilmember Will Jawando will be joined by special guest Katie Ledecky, five-time Olympic gold medalist and 15-time World Championship gold medalist in swimming, for his daily virtual storytime for children affected by the Covid-19-related closure of schools, public libraries and other services.

Parents and children are able to join Councilmember Jawando’s virtual story readings on Councilmember Jawando’s Facebook page and on his YouTube page. The readings are streamed live on both pages.

“Katie Ledecky is a hometown hero who grew up in Montgomery County, in Bethesda, and has gone on to become one of the most successful and admired swimmers of all time,” said Councilmember Jawando, who serves as the lead for libraries on the Council’s Education and Culture Committee. “I am very happy to have her joining my daily virtual storytime, where she’ll help inspire a love of reading, imagination and creativity in the young people of Montgomery County and the D.C. region.”

All Montgomery County Public Schools are closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 academic year as Montgomery County and the State of Maryland continue to respond to the global Covid-19 pandemic.

All public libraries remain closed until further notice, but they encourage all residents to take advantage of their digital resources.

Montgomery County is scheduled to enter Phase Two of its gradual, evidence-based reopening on Friday, June 19. For a clear picture of what activities, services and businesses are open and available during each phase of the County’s reopening, you can visit the Reopening Montgomery website.
