Montgomery County’s Alcohol Beverage Services Reopens Cabin John Village Center Store

For Immediate Release: Monday, June 22, 2020

Montgomery County’s Alcohol Beverage Services (ABS) today reopened its Cabin John store located within the Cabin John Village Center mall following guidelines issued by Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich under Phase 2 of his reopening plan from the COVID-19 health crisis. The store had been closed since March 19 when Maryland Governor Larry Hogan announced the closure of all enclosed malls in the State to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.

The Cabin John store hours will be the same as the other 25 stores operated by ABS throughout the County. The stores currently are open Monday through Saturday from noon - 7 p.m.

“We are excited to have the Cabin John store reopen to be able to serve our community,” said Kent Massie, ABS chief of retail.

Employees of the Cabin John store had been relocated to other ABS stores while it was closed.

ABS has installed plexiglass barriers and hand sanitizer stations in each store. Staff is disinfecting regularly and limiting the number of people in each store to maintain social distancing requirements. Customers will still be required to wear face coverings while shopping.

ABS is the alcohol wholesaler of beer, wine and spirits for Montgomery County. ABS operates 25 beer, wine and spirits stores and one spirits only store in Poolesville. It manages alcohol licensing, enforcement and education for more than 1,000 businesses. Generating more than $35 million in net income annually, ABS profits are used to pay down County debt with a large portion deposited in the County general fund to pay for resident services that would otherwise be funded by County tax dollars.
