For Immediate Release: Monday, October 12, 2020

Council President Sidney Katz hosts his third Student Advisory Group
composed of students from Montgomery College and the Universities of Shady Grove.

ROCKVILLE, Md., Oct. 12, 2020—On Monday, Oct. 12, at 5 p.m., Montgomery County Council President Sidney Katz’s Student Advisory Group will hold its first meeting of the 2020-2021 school year. This group is composed of students from Montgomery College and the Universities of Shady Grove. There are currently 18 students in the 2020-2021 class.

The main purpose of Sidney Katz’s Student Advisory Group is to engage and excite local college students about the work of the Montgomery County Council. The role of the students is to advise Council President Katz on issues important to them. Some issues discussed during prior Student Advisory Groups included affordable housing, transportation, race equity, policing, taxes and more.

“One of the most memorable events was introducing students to our State Delegation during a special reception at the County Council,” said Council President Katz. “The students were so excited to connect with their state representatives. It was fantastic when I learned that some students even obtained internships from these relationships!”

Sidney Katz’s Student Advisory Group will meet every other month until May. All meetings will be on the Zoom platform for the time being. All students were recommended to Council President Katz from administrators, professors and/or guidance counselors from Montgomery College and the Universities of Shady Grove.
