For Immediate Release: Tuesday, November 24, 2020
This year, MCDOT’s annual Walk & Ride Challenge held its first virtual competition with great results – more than 100 teams with nearly 500 participants competed in the three-week event that raised morale, enhanced health and provided team-building benefits. The annual event encourages teams of three to five employees who work in the County’s Transportation Management Districts to incorporate walking into their daily routines. The teams and individuals compete for prizes by seeing who can log the most steps on their commutes, by combining walking with transit or simply walking to work or at lunchtime.
Commuter Services was successful in getting the word out about the event through e-blasts and contacts with employers and employees. Those teleworking were encouraged to challenge themselves and their co-workers to include walking in their daily schedules while working from home.
